Origin of Biosolids

A septic tank is a small scale sewage treatment system which is generally set up in areas with no connection to a collective sewage network.
Periodic maintenance is required to remove the Biosolids which settle and gradually fill the tank. In most of the European countries, this maintenance is required by law.
The extracted materials are then treated in sewage treatment plants or spread on agricultural land, with the same safety and quality levels as any other sludge.

Wasterwater treatment plant

Wastewater treatment is carried out through different physical, chemical and biological processes. The objective is to produce a treated water for discharge back to watercourses and a Bio- waste (or sludge) suitable for safe reuse throughout different disposal routes including landspreading.

Industrial waste water treatment

Industrial effluent has also to be cleaned before being released into the environment. Only the industrial effluents which do not spoil the quality of Biosolids, are accepted in the  wasterwater treatment plant.

In some cases, industries (paper industries, chemical industries, food industries...) have their own wasterwater treatment plant.
